The TKC Story
Meet Courtney, Our Founder
The Kid Connection began during the quiet chaos of COVID—right in Courtney’s driveway.
As a mom and dyslexia therapist, Courtney was just trying to help her son through the struggles of virtual learning. She created hands-on, personalized lessons that not only helped him learn—but helped him believe in himself again. It didn’t take long before other families came knocking, looking for the same kind of support for their children.
What started with a few neighborhood kids turned into something bigger. From tutoring to social-emotional support, The Kid Connection became a place where kids felt safe, known, and encouraged.
As the need continued to grow, so did the vision. Today, The Kid Connection has expanded into a full university-model education program that serves all learners. With small class sizes, personalized plans, and a faith-filled foundation, we’re here to build confidence, close academic gaps, and support families every step of the way.
Courtney Currie began The Kid Connection after experiencing first-hand the unmet needs of children with learning differences. Starting with dyslexia tutoring for her own son, she developed personalized academic plans that helped him thrive academically and emotionally. Inspired by that success, Courtney expanded her vision into a faith-based support organization, offering tutoring, counseling, and advocacy. Today, TKC serves families across McKinney and the DFW area through comprehensive, child-centered programs grounded in faith, love, and personalized care.

Centered on Faith & Family
Our Mission & Beliefs
At The Kid Connection, we see each child as a masterpiece—uniquely created by God with purpose and potential. We don’t just teach—we come alongside families to support the whole child: academically, emotionally, and spiritually.
Our mission is simple but deep—
“to nurture confident, lifelong learners who know they are loved, capable, and created for more.”
With compassion and grace at the center, we create spaces where kids feel safe, seen, and truly known.
Because when a child feels valued, they begin to thrive and that is the heart of everything we do.

Tailored Programs, Faith-Driven Support
Personalized Education That Honors Every Learner
What makes The Kid Connection so special is the heart behind everything we do. We believe every child is uniquely created by God—with gifts to nurture, struggles to support, and a purpose to fulfill. At TKC, we come alongside families to create a space where children can grow into who they were made to be—academically, emotionally, and spiritually.
Our University-model K–12 program, TKCU, isn’t just for students who are behind—it’s designed for all learners. With a three-day-per-week, developmentally responsive structure, TKCU blends the best of home and classroom learning in a Christ-centered environment. Whether a child needs academic support, space to soar, or something in between, our model allows us to meet them where they are and walk with them as they grow.
Alongside our school model, TKC offers a range of personalized support services, including play-based therapy, faith-based therapy, and targeted tutoring. These services are designed to support the whole child—helping students process big emotions, build resilience, and find joy in their learning journey.
At the heart of it all is our deep desire to partner with families in raising confident, compassionate, faith-filled kids who know they are loved, capable, and called.
What sets TKC apart is our blend of ongoing support programs and our innovative University-model K–12 school, both designed to grow with your child. Whether you need targeted tutoring, counseling, or small-group instruction, our support services meet individual academic or emotional needs. Meanwhile, our three-day-per-week TKCU model offers a hybrid learning environment, guiding students through developmentally responsive, Christ-centered education. Every program delivers personalized attention and faith-infused learning to foster academic excellence, character, and confidence.

What Our Student's Families Are Saying About TKC Support Programs
Our journey with The Kid Connection University (TKCU) began when our oldest daughter was flagged for dyslexia. From the start, she connected with the caring staff and engaging teaching—it was never a struggle to get her to tutoring. At the time, she hated reading and writing and her confidence was slipping. After moving her to TKCU full-time, everything changed. Within a semester, she jumped a grade level, gained confidence, and began to love reading. The small classes and nurturing environment helped her thrive academically and personally. When we later enrolled our younger daughter, TKCU quickly identified a processing disorder we hadn’t seen and provided early interventions that made a huge difference. As our oldest recently said, “TKCU is family.” This school hasn’t just changed their academic paths—it’s changed their lives.

What Our Student's Families Are Saying About TKC Support Programs
We are so grateful for The Kid Connection! Our son first came to TKCU for tutoring and, miraculously, was able to join mid-year. He struggles with dyslexia, dysgraphia, and a slight processing disorder, but the school has gone above and beyond to meet his individual needs through customized learning and dedicated tutoring. Because of their hard work, (and his too!) he not only caught up but actually advanced a grade.
The support didn’t stop there—when my husband lost his job, the school was incredibly understanding and compassionate. We love the welcoming atmosphere, the commitment to Biblical teaching, and the strong sense of accountability they foster in both students and staff. The teachers are exceptional, and we especially appreciate all that Courtney and Tara have done for all of us. We truly couldn’t imagine a better place for our son to learn and grow.

What Our Student's Families Are Saying About TKC Support Programs
TKCU has been a blessing to our family. Our daughter has learning differences and a speech disorder and TKCU has been the best. The teachers and staff are the most caring and nurturing people. We know our daughter is cared for and loved at TKCU and we are so thankful to have found this school!

What Our Student's Families Are Saying About TKC Support Programs
The Kid Connection is an answer to our prayers. It is a very special place and give kids the opportunity to grow and develop into a who God wants them to be. The teachers and staff go above and beyond to meet each student where they are and help them in a way that meets their individual and unique circumstances. I love the way the staff care about protecting the kids emotionally, physically and spiritually. The small class size gives each student an opportunity to be seen and taught in the way that they need. TKCU is not a one size fits all school model and is a wonderful place to allow kids to be seen and given opportunities they may not otherwise have and grow in ways that God needs them to grow.

What Our Student's Families Are Saying About TKC Support Programs
We spent our elementary years in public school and while so much was a positive experience, we were looking for a more individualized curriculum and smaller teacher to student ratio. Our son has really progressed and thrived at TKCU over the last 2 years! He doesn't dread going to school anymore and feels like he's found a place to belong. With smaller classroom sizes, the teachers are able to meet the kids where they are at."
